Learn to Fly

The Recreational Pilot Certificate

To achieve your Recreational Pilot Certificate, you require a minimum of 20 hours in flight training. This training consists of 15 hours dual, and 5 hours solo flying.

The average student achieves their Pilot Certificate within a couple of hours of the 20 hour minimum, however as all flight training is competency based, some students may take a little bit longer.

To help achieve your license in as little time as possible, we recommend students fly at least once a fortnight. Although this is not a requirement, leaving longer breaks between flights may result in slower learning and more regular revision.

After approximately 12 hours of flight training, the average student achieves one of the rewarding experiences of their flying career, their first solo flight. To go solo, a student pilot must be at least 15 years old. However training can commence from a younger age. As long as you can reach the controls you can earn to fly.

All hours accumulated in a recreational aircraft count towards the CASA Recreational, Private and Commercial Licences. Utilising RAAUS aircraft for hour building can dramatically reduce the costs involved with achieving these licences.

Endorsements

Passenger Endorsement

Upon completing your Recreational Pilot Certificate, many students are excited to share what they have achieved with their friend and family. Once you have built up a total of 10 hours as Pilot in Command (Solo) you are eligible for a passenger endorsement. This allows you to explore our beautiful training area with a passenger by your side.

Navigation Endorsement

Many students, once they achieve their Recreational Pilots Certificate, look to broaden their knowledge and advance their skills. Our Navigation Endorsement allows a Pilot Certificate holder to travel further than 25nm from their departure point, and explore the skies of Australia. If you decide to complete your navigation endorsement before your passenger endorsement, your solo nav time counts toward your passenger endorsement.

Tailwheel Endorsement

There is no better way to enhance your stick and rudder skills than learinng to fly a tail wheel aircraft. Many of our pilots looking to enhance their skills thoroughly enjoy the challenges of flying a tailwheel aircraft. Feel free to talk to our team about the thrill of earning your tailwheel endorsement in our new Savage Cub.

Formation Endorsement

Our more experienced pilots often look to expand the knowledge and consolidate their skills. Formation flying is a great way of improving your hand eye coordination whilst also acting as part of a team while flying. All of our instructors are formation trained and regularly practice to enhance their own abilities. For more information please speak with our friendly team.
