Caboolture Recreational Aviation is a flight school specialising in RAAus Recreational Pilot Training. Established 25 years ago, we train students of all ages to achieve their goals, whether it's something you've always wanted to experience or you're starting an aviation career and moving onto the commercial or airline industry. We not only train sons and daughters, mums and dad's but also have many current airline pilots who fly with us to keep their skills current, enjoying traditional 'stick and rudder' flying.

Our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards, being factory-built and maintained by long standing qualified LAME engineers. Our Chief Flying Instructor (CFI)  has over 20,000 flight hours including Recreational, GA, Commercial and Airline experience.

Take the first step and call us or drop into our lounge for a coffee - you'll never look at the sky the same way again!

Frequently Asked Qustions

1. Where to start?

If you are keen to start learning, you can contact us to arrange a trial introductory flight. This 30 - 60 minute flight will introduce you to the basic handling of an aircraft, and will allow you to take controls of the aircraft.

2. Can anybody learn to fly?

Recreational Flying requires students to hold a drivers licence medical. This means if you can drive a car, you can fly a plane. Although solo flight is only permitted once a student has turned 15 years old, you can begin learning at any age.

3. How long before I can get my Pilot Certificate?

Your instructor will send you solo when they are confident that you can safely fly the plane by yourself. This milestone usually takes place after 12 hours of training. The Recreational Pilot Certificate requires a minimum of 15 hour dual and 5 hours solo training.

Most students achieve their pilots certificate within 2 hours of the required 20 hour minimum. However, as flight training is competency based, some students may take a couple of hours longer. To help you achieve your certificate in minimum times, we recommend flying at least once a fortnight.

4. What about examinations?

We can arrange classes to help you understand the necessary subjects and prepare for the examination subjects. There are a total of 5 exams that need to be completed over the course of your training. Our instructors have prepared a variety of study courses and tailor them to suit individual learning styles, ensuring you achieve the best results first time. All examinations are held at the flying school.

5. What can I do once I've obtained my Licence?

Once you have your licence you can private hire our aircraft and share your love of flying with family and friends. Providing you fly regularly, then you have a pilot's licence for life.

6. How much does it cost?

Flying Instruction is charged on an hourly rate. This is either Dual (with an instructor) or Solo. Your training program will be organised to suit your budget.
